The Story Behind the Contemplation Concerts

The idea for the Contemplation Concerts was born in 2018, when pianist Tanja Zapolski experienced a piano performance created for a lying audience.

She has long been fascinated by new ways of presenting classical music – how we can share it in ways that open people’s hearts and allow more to feel its depth and beauty.

Classical music holds a special kind of depth. It can move us, connect us to something within, and take us to places beyond thought.

Over the years, Tanja has also explored meditation, inner awareness, and the nature of human consciousness. From this, a wish grew to bring the two worlds together – the magic of music and the inner space of stillness.

Out of this meeting, the Contemplation Concerts began to take shape.

In a world moving ever faster, where we are constantly surrounded by information and noise, many people rarely find moments of true rest. Stress and overstimulation have become part of modern life, and yet, deep down, we long for silence – to slow down, to feel, and to reconnect with ourselves.

The Contemplation Concerts were born from that longing.

They offer a space where listeners can sit or lie down surrounded by candlelight, immersed in the flow of music that unfolds in complete silence – no applause, only presence.

Each concert lasts one hour and moves through time and history – from the Baroque to today’s soundscapes – as a living journey through the history of music, the evolution of the world, and the inner universe of humanity.

A place for contemplation, presence, and connection.

“With her exceptional virtuosity and a strong, outward musical temperament, pianist Tanja Zapolski has established herself as one of the most exciting names among Danish pianists.”

– Kristeligt Dagblad

Tanja Zapolski is one of Denmark’s most remarkable pianists – known for her virtuosity, sensitivity, and her ability to create living connections between music and people.

Born in Ukraine and educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, she has performed with most Danish symphony orchestras and toured internationally, from Versailles to Tokyo, Los Angeles, and London.

For more than 30 years, Tanja has been an active concert pianist and has performed with renowned artists such as composer Philip Glass and conductor Sir Simon Rattle. She has received numerous awards, including the Victor Borge Prize, the Sonning Scholarship, the Danish Freemasons’ Music Prize, the Gladsaxe Music Prize, and the Wilhelm Hansen Prize – and she is featured in Kraks Blå Bog (the Danish Who’s Who).

As a musician and artist, Tanja is innovative and driven by a deep wish to find new ways of bringing classical music to people.

Through many years of spiritual exploration – involving meditation, tantra, and energy work – she has opened to a deeper understanding of consciousness and of music’s transformative nature. Her artistic expression arises from this search: a movement toward wholeness, freedom, and connection between the outer and the inner universe.

Her Contemplation Concerts unite music, silence, and presence in a meditative space, where the listener is invited into stillness, reflection, and connection.
